Logic Pro 10.4 is available starting today in the App Store, and costs $199 for new users, the same as before. There's a ton of new content and tools to work with here other manufacturers have done full version-number upgrades for less. Truth be told, don't be fooled by the point update nomenclature. Logic Pro 10.4 is another free update for existing users, which Apple points out is the 20th such update since Pro X's launch in the summer of 2013-a clear dig at subscription-based competitors like Avid Pro Tools and the now-defunct Cakewalk SONAR. Not that I've ever done that dozens of times. It also (finally!) covers the mixer, so you no longer have to worry if you accidentally bump a volume slider on a track with no automation and can't remember where you had it set before. A revamped Undo system now works globally and per plug-in. The program comes with an additional 800 loops and 150 new Alchemy presets, the latter of which are tuned for cinematic use. Other upgrades: There are two new vintage jazz and brush kits for Drummer, along with two Drummer personalities to play them in both jazz and roots styles. A new vintage EQ plug-in delivers models based on famous (and expensive) Neve, API, and Pultec hardware, without calling out the actual names but with a clear nod in each one to the sound of specific models. I can't wait to try it out.Īpple's also looking to do with EQ what it did already for vintage compressor models. Apple has toyed with articulations in the past, most notably with the old Symphony Orchestra Jam Pack back in the mid 2000s, but this is on another level entirely. It supposedly (miracle of miracles) works with third-party plug-ins from Native Instruments, East West, Garritan, and other famous sound design studios, each of which currently has its own articulation system. There's also an all-new articulation system for triggering staccato, legato, plucking, bowing, and other specific samples. Two new Studio Strings and Studio Horns plug-ins promise to add much more realistic ensemble sections, complete with control of individual players. These are two multi-effects units that add warmth, punch, and presence to your synth, bass, and drums tracks, as well as rhythmic elements, respectively. Now Apple and Camel Audio have worked to upgrade two more of the latter's existing plug-ins and bring them into the Apple fold: Phat FX and Step FX. Still no word on an EXS24 refresh, the big one I've been holding out for, but I'll take all of this.Īpple bought up Camel Audio a while back, which is why Logic Pro comes with the fantastic-sounding Alchemy plug-in (which used to cost several hundred dollars). (I jokingly asked Apple if you could embed the light show in the final MP3 file and there were several seconds of deafening silence I won't quit my day job.) The existing convolution reverb-based Space Designer gets a sorely needed UI makeover as well and is now compatible with Retina screens. On the plug-in front, a brand new ChromaVerb delivers algorithmic programs along with a beautiful, colorful visual component that lets you shape the sound and audible space. You can do it all live or use an old Logic project as a starting point to derive tempo information. But now, when you start adding things like, say, rhythmic sounds recorded from an old Korg Wavestation or Roland JP-8000, electric guitar riffs, or other otherwise unmapped audio, everything will automatically follow the project tempo-even if you set it up so that the song rushes a bit in the choruses and lays back a bit in the verses. Third-party sellers like Big Fish Audio already sell Apple Loops. It can export a 1920 x 1080 HD video to an MP4 on my Intel i5 machine at nearly real-time speed. Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 16 is much faster than any version up through 15. The link is to, but DTVpro may offer a better deal. I highly recommend the book Pinnacle Studio Plus and Ultimate Revealed, by Jeff Naylor. There's a lot more information, by the way, at and. I still need to look things up in the Help and the Manual, and so I am in a good position to comment on their quality. I think that is a good perspective from which to write. I have come to like and appreciate many things about it, but I am still having growing pains. It is also easy to notice features that are missing, or more difficult in the new application, so, even while the new version may work much better all in all, it may seem worse at first.Īs I write this review, I am climbing the learning curve in Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 16. It is easy to dislike a new application which manages tasks in an unfamiliar way. I have lost work when Pinnacle Studio 16 crashed while I was in import mode. Pinnacle Studio 16 has the same feature but needs it less often. One of version 15's best features, I would rather not need: it almost always reloads a project intact on restarting after a crash. However, these versions are rather slow, even on my Intel i5 computer, very crash-prone and allow only 3 video tracks. I found Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 15 (and earlier versions) to have the features I needed for my purposes. This review is mostly about Pinnacle Studio Ultimate 16 - which I'm using as I write this. This makes transition to the newer version easier. 15 and the newer ones based on technology from Avid. There's a big difference, both in performance and in the user interface, between releases up through v. You may compare the newest versions of the newest release, Pinnacle Studio v. Less-expensive Pinnacle products work essentially the same but are missing some features - mostly, add-on effects the least expensive does not support keyframing, so you can only have static effects such as pans and zooms. I'm using the version with the most bells and whistles: Pinnacle Studio 16 Ultimate. Avid more recently sold the product to Corel, which did some additional work on it and renamed it Pinnacle Studio 16. In 2011 or thereabouts, Avid, primarily a maker of high-end video software and hardware, bought up Pinnacle Systems, and created Avid Studio as a prosumer product - incorporating many of the features of Pinnacle Studio software. Pinnacle Studio is a video editing software package that runs in Windows. Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.
